Why We Should Always Buy Organic Food!
Well folk, I’ve seen it all! In the 1970’s I went to an agricultural college, and was there to learn the “Latest and Most Up To Date Farming Practices” 🙂 That was from 1973 to 1975. By Up to Date Practices, that meant using fertilizers which were charged with ways of providing plants with a Quick Fix.
In other words, they’d be off to a faster start than would have been the case for millenniums. And a “faster start” always would mean greater yields, which supposedly always means more profit. I beg to differ there! Maybe for the chemical companies, right?
There’s a phenomenon in nature which we were never taught. It’s something you’ll only hear from good soil stewards, who are for the most part “Organic” farmers. That phenomenon is that weeds have a tendency to grow when fertility is at its best, and when the crops planted are still trying to break through the soil. In other words, the weeds are there to absorb and preserve fertility, which in the case of Nitrogen, the element most needed in early stage plant growth, is a gas, and very likely to evaporate back into the atmosphere, where it represents 78% thereof!
The other sad thing about chemically grown food, is that there are so many tonnes of the three Macro elements (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) thrown onto fields, that they totally displace the micro-nutrients. In other words, when you go to the grocery store, you get what you get, no questions asked! Which farm was this from? No, ” how much did this cost?”
But when you buy organically grown fruits, vegetables, or grain crops, you’ll know that you’re eating something which is healthier through and through. So I seriously suggest you have a good read of the following article.
