Autumn is Just Around the Corner

Posted by in Whole Health

With Autumn arriving down the pike in only a few weeks, this means some of us, especially those of us north of the US – Canadian border, and weather meaning less mobility, what better  time is there to dig out your hobbies, or even find another to keep you pleasantly busy for the next few months, until the better weather returns. In fact, I was lucky to have met an expertise Swedish Weaver, who     subsequently sold me on the pleasures of it.  Here, I found her Spring Patterns edition which…read more

Why We Should Always Buy Organic Food!

Posted by in Whole Health

Well folk, I’ve seen it all! In the 1970’s I went to an agricultural college, and was there to learn the “Latest and Most Up To Date Farming Practices” 🙂 That was from 1973 to 1975.  By Up to Date Practices, that meant using fertilizers which were charged with ways of providing plants with a Quick Fix. In other words, they’d be off to a faster start than would have been the case for millenniums. And a “faster start” always would mean greater yields, which supposedly always means more profit….read more

Bone Broth’s Healing Properties

Posted by in Healthy Food Choices, Whole Health

I was trying to think of a useful article to right about over the last few days. Then suddenly on Facebook I saw a great article by Rodale News Home Cooked Sunday: Sunday Soup! I’ve lately been reading about all the wonders of plant based foods, and have been mulling in  my mind the fact that I’d like to get back into growing a big patch of veggies, as I did several years ago, before the J.O.B began to occupy the better part of my time! Well then while reading that article, I…read more

Stress, and How to Handle it … Before it Handles You!

Posted by in Whole Health

Stress is a problem. It always has been, but was only recognized in the form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in 1980 by the American Psychiatric Association. Its cause is often said to be from a low level of the hormone “Cortisol,” but recent research has concluded this as not being a significant correlation. A very recent issue of the Huffington Post, they discuss 8 of the Worst Picks for When You’re Feeling Anxious. I notice here they ONLY talk about what NOT to use, and in one example they refer…read more

Vaccines and Their Effects On Our Health

Posted by in Whole Health

I’ve been searching for some time now, for reliable information on the effects of vaccines. There are hate letters about vaccines all over the web. People in the medical field are throwing cast iron spanners out into the crowd, calling us all careless murderers, and “common” people out in the crowd including me 🙂 touted as stupid, uneducated, dangerous … and on and on! So I decided today to do some research (actually “Google Search”!) on the topics. My knowledge on this topic is not brilliant, but I actually did study Anatomy…read more

Solar Cycles, Their Effects on Crops and … Most Everything!

Posted by in Whole Health

Solar cycles were a phenomenon I learned about in 1971 when I was first introduced to Short Wave, and later Amateur Radio.  I thought radio and TV signals were the only thing affected by sunspots, but apparently not!  As you can see in the graph here, solar cycles have a consistent 22 year cycle, usually with a small peak in the middle.  And here we were in 1979 (check the graph) with a whopping crop of oats, like something I had never seen before. I The most significant thing in my mind…read more

All In A Day!

Posted by in Whole Health

All in a day! First off communicating with your boss (and perhaps the Government). Second having your picture taken (yes, every-day!). And finally singing “On The Road Again!”         Enjoy work? Really it’s what you make of it. Trucking definitely isn’t for everybody. Well I remember in the beginning, once I got a “real” job, I sat behind the wheel, and remember thinking “Oh my God, what on earth did I get myself into?” And at that point I began thinking how much I appreciated all those who’ve…read more

Happy Mother’s Day!

Posted by in Whole Health

Mother’s Day Turns 100 This Year , according to Brian Handwerk of the National Geographic.  But it hasn’t always been as we know it today, quite commercialized, with cut flowers, or big restaurant meals, or even manicures & pedicures.   It started in the 1850s when West Virginia women’s organizer Ann Reeves Jarvis held Mother’s Day work clubs to improve sanitary conditions and try to lower infant mortality by fighting disease and curbing milk contamination.  Groups also tended wounded soldiers from both sides during the U.S. Civil War from 1861 to 1865….read more

Fruits Trees, and Insect Control

Posted by in Whole Health

According to Canada’s CTV News, Apples top the 2014 list of most pesticide-contaminated produce .  One thing I can tell you is that if insects don’t like something, there must be something wrong with it! That includes GMO fruits containing the pesticides!  There are other things you can apply to fruit trees, some are effective, some not.  I used to see a neighbor climbing to the top of a step ladder with a small hand pump, spraying a bitter lemon type of cocktail.  He said it usually worked, but that some…read more

Is Health Care Too Expensive?

Posted by in Whole Health

I was recently listening to a radio “Talk Show” where they were discussing wages of Registered Nurses (RN’s).  RNs throughout the the radio phone-in show discussions, were found to be considered as the “back-bone” of the hospitals.  They’re in the center of all that goes on, and while being very involved in the management of “Getting Things Done” on the floor, they’re also very much the communications lifeline between patients and their necessities, be it prescriptions, pain killers, food, bathing … The list is endless!  But they are without a…read more
