With Spring Just Around the Corner …

While looking outside my window just now with the bright sun and white reflections can be a bit deceiving at 6ºF or -14ºC 🙂

It just got me thinking of activities such as camping, and cross country skiing.  One area is just a few miles north of Canada’s capital “Ottawa” is shown Gatineau Park  At this time of the year, as the temperatures begin to rise, so too do other wonderful things take place, especially in nature.

Trees begin to bud.  Buds feed birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and other small critters, which in turn feed larger predators. So put your cross country skis on and bring your video camera!

It will soon be time to “tap the sap” of Maple trees, which in turn gets boiled down to a lovely sticky heavenly flavored Maple Syrup.  All of this in a short space of time.  This is the sort of thing traditional farmers have done for more than 100 years. It has traditionally meant the first harvest prior to the start of the planting season.
